Paver Restoration

To us paver restoration is needed in two different cases. 1. When the pavers have been so impacted by the sun and other elements that they have lost a significant amount of their color and appeal or 2. When the pavers have been sealed improperly and the result is unacceptable. If you’ve ever seen some pavers that have turned white after being sealed, the white haze or film you see is actually trapped moisture. “Whiting” as it is called in our industry, is not to be confused with concrete efflorescence, which can cause white looking pavers to happen at any time, due to natural causes.

Whiting happens when your pavers have been sealed with a xylene or acrylic (solvent-based) sealer. The trapped moisture is caused by hydrostatic pressure, which brings the moisture up through the pores of the pavers and trapping it under the sealer. Once your pavers have “turned white”, there is only one way to rectify the problem. The sealer must be completely stripped off and re-sealed with the correct type of sealer; also known as paver restoration.

Stripping pavers is the last resort but in many cases, it’s the only solution. Our team is fully trained and equipped to strip most surfaces. Most paver restoration companies charge $2.50 or more per square foot to strip off the old sealer. Avoid this costly mistake by choosing the right sealer and a contractor who is certified, licensed, and insured.

For those situations where the pavers have lost a great deal of their color due to sun and water exposure over time, we can still bring a great deal of the color back with our Color enhancing techniques that are above and beyond typical paver sealing. Ask our technician to explain and show you the difference we can make on your pavers.
